Certification Suspension and Reinstatement:

CIPS Certified Member who either do not recertify or do not renew their membership will have their certification(s) suspended and lose their entitlement to use CIPS Designations (AITP, I.S.P., ITCP).

Suspended members have up to one year to renew and recertify without penalty. After one year a $350 reinstatement fee is required to regain Certified Member status. 


Recertification Requirements:

  1. Recertification is required every 3 years
  2. At least 100 continuing professional development credits is required over three years
  3. Demonstration that one actively works in I.T. required – 3,000 hours over the last 3 years is the guideline
  4. Earn recertification credits through volunteerism via “Giving Back to the Profession”
  5. Provide written evidence of professional development credits  in the form of a log record
  6. Undertake random audits where evidence of professional development credits must be provided

Failing to fulfill the recertification requirements will result in sanctions which may include, but not be limited to, a requirement to complete a certain number of re-certification credits within a set period of time or the revocation of the right to hold the professional certification.

Recording your Professional Development Activities

You are responsible for recording your professional development activities as they occur. The most efficient way is to record these on the CIPS Re-Certification Activity Record.
