With over 30 years of industry experience, primarily in large, global firms, Mr. Lane has proven his ability to successfully sell and lead engagements for large and small clients in both private and public sector. One of his key strengths is his ability to communicate clearly and cogently with staff and executives and to restate complex problems in simple business terms to assist leaders in effective decision making. Greg has worked extensively with many levels of management and is consistently sought out for advice and coaching.

Strategic telecommunications and information technology project work with large private and public sector clients has been Greg’s focus throughout his career. The implementation of often disruptive technology required superior risk management and mitigation plans as well as significant change management initiatives. This experience has been acquired in Canada and abroad. In New Zealand, Greg was able to use his creative problem solving approaches in helping establish Clear Communications, a start-up telecommunications company, that achieved unprecedented market share in record time. He has been a key player in numerous initiatives in both private and public sectors to create multi-channel customer service strategies. His experience includes key aspects of the system development life cycle, including vision, strategy, planning, risk management, delivery, and governance. Greg’s work has focused on developing organizational support through relationships to deliver superior solution development and implementation.

Throughout his career Greg has used his problem solving capabilities to help clients build unique private and public sector solutions for challenging problems both technical and operational. He has held numerous senior leadership roles in Bell Canada that involved designing and delivering technology solutions to large national clients primarily in Ottawa. His position as Managing Director, Government Services at EDS focused on delivering large scale technology solutions including year 2000 services to key Federal Government departments. At Deloitte he helped re-build the Ottawa consulting practice. By re-focusing and successfully leading a number of large pursuit teams in multi-vendor consortia, he helped build Deloitte’s Consulting Ottawa Federal practice into the largest in the Canadian firm. As the Director, Federal region for Microsoft Canada, Greg helped the team achieve double digit growth in a very difficult market. Greg led business development for Accenture in Ottawa before joining Cisco to lead the Public Sector team in Ottawa. The Cisco Ottawa team consistently grew market share and dominated in challenging market conditions. Greg has retired and is consulting part time for both private and public sector clients. Greg also advises non-profit and academic initiatives as a volunteer.

Greg’s teaching experience includes E-Governance and New Public Management at the University of Ottawa in the Administration faculty. This course was intended to help graduating students better understand the issues they would face working for, or with, the Federal Public Service. Greg has had two papers published in Lac Carling Review. The first, “Building Relationships for a Digital World”, focused on the advantages that could be achieved by combining the respective knowledge experience and skills of the private and public sector in a positive and productive way. The second article, “e-Government Portals: The Paradigm Shift”, addressed the fundamental change that governments were experiencing in the digital age and how to take advantage of this new reality. After writing these articles and interviewing a number of senior public servants he co-authored a paper published through the Centre on Governance titled “E-Government in Canada- Services Online or Public Sector Renewal?” The paper provided useful insights into how senior public servants felt their jobs and organizations would be affected by the increasing demand for on-line services. Greg’s most recent publication was in www.optimumonline.ca and titled “Security and Stability on the Electronic Highway, a Collaborative Challenge for Industry and  Government.
